A good turnout for this Points Race #6. It was to be a long
day with a Dual Main to makeup a rained out Points Race # 5. There were (9) racers
present for the race day starting at 3:00pm. It was still HOT with temperature
in the mid-90s.
The format would be the normal procedure for the heats and
Points Race #6 Main and then there would be a 2nd Main for making up the rained
out Points Race #5 with the field being inverted from the results of the first
Main. Points will be separate for each Main. The only lost points will be the
two (2) of the three (3) Bonus points from the rained out Main. The winner of
the second Main will collect that Bonus Point.

faster as the heat went on running his fast lap on Lap 49 as he did not crack
into the 6.1 times until lap 38.

This was one of the best heats of the day from top to bottom
as everyone ran fast times and it was only over the last few laps did anyone drop
off the lead lap. The difference between 1st & 2nd was just 1.212 seconds
after 50 laps. 4th & 5th finished with a difference of 0.933 seconds after
50 laps. The top 3 all ran 6.1s and 4th and 5th ran 6.2s.

Mike
Clark 33, 37-50
Wayne
Rogers 34-36
Fast Lap of the Heat – Eddie Dunn (Lightning) in 6.262
seconds.
Very interesting heat to watch as everyone led a lap and from
lap 32-37 there were 4 changes for the lead. Very exciting indeed. Eddie Dunn
made a late run making up ground and actually ran his fastest lap on the last
lap trying to catch back up to Mike Clark but would come up just short.
----------------------------
Sportsman Group 1 Heat #3 Racers had Jerry Evans on Pole.
Heat Results:
1st
Jerry Evans (TNT)
2nd
James Adamson – 4.161

4th
Eddie McCray
5th
David Swearengin - DNS
Lap Leaders:
Jerry
Evans 1-50
Fast Lap of the Heat – Cliff Scales (TNT) in 5.996 seconds.
Again Jerry Evans would win the Heat, but Cliff Scales’ car
starting working late in the heat and would run some very fast times and had
fastest lap. James’ car got loose towards the end and Cliff had James in his
sights. It just took too long for his car to get hooked up and could not make up
the difference in time that both James and Jerry had built up earlier in the heat.
----------------------------
Sportsman Group 2 Heat #3 Racers had Scott Mike Clark on Pole.
Heat Results:
1st
Wayne Rogers (Lightning)
2nd
Mike Clark – 0.409 back

Mike Carrigg
4th
Eddie Dunn
Lap Leaders:
Mike
Clark 1-27
Wayne
Rogers 28-50
Fast Lap of the Heat – Mike Clark (TNT) in 6.292 seconds.
Mike Clark looked to have this heat under control but about
half way the handling went away, and Wayne Rogers would take over 1st. About
the same time Eddie Dunn had mechanical issues. Then Wayne’s handling went away
also. The heat would finish under caution with Wayne taking the win.
----------------------------
The Heats were tabulated and the Main for Points Race #6 was
set.
Sportsman Main:
Pole
– Jerry Evans (Bonus Point for TQ of Heats)
2nd
– Mike Clark
3rd
– James Adamson
4th
– Wayne Rogers
5th
– Cliff Scales
6th
– Eddie Dunn
7th
– Eddie McCray
8th
- David Swearengin
Jerry
Evans would lead until the half way full stop at lap 75.
James
Adamson would move up to 2nd early and hold that position until lap 29 where he
got caught up in the tail end of an accident and broke several body posts and would
have to pull off the track several laps later and try to make repairs, he would
return back to the race many laps down and finished 8th as no one else dropped
out or lost enough laps.
Cliff
Scales, who started 5th, showed some speed that he had picked up in heat #3 to
move up to 2nd by the halfway fuel stop at lap 75. Tying Cliff for the biggest
mover in the 1st 75 laps was Eddie McCray up from 7th to 4th.
Running
order at halfway was 1st Jerry Evans, 2nd Cliff Scales, 3rd Mike Clark, 4th
Eddie
McCray,
5th Wayne Rogers, 6th Eddie Dunn, 7th David Swearengin, and 8th James Adamson.
Jerry
Evans would lead the balance of the laps for the Win of the Main and was really
not threaten by anyone even though several of the drivers could run some of the
same times as Jerry.
Wayne
Rogers would run very consistent laps, stay out of trouble and with the help of
a late race restart (which he is great at) would take home the 2nd position on
a last lap pass and be the biggest mover in the 2nd 75 lap section moving up
from 5th. Wayne is usually very good in the Mains because he is especially good
at getting the most out of his car and finishing in the best position that his
car will allow.
David
Swearengin would run his Fastest Ever Lap at LPR on lap 110 in a time of 6.243
seconds.
Finishing Order for Points Race #6 Sportsman Main:
1st
– Jerry Evans (Bonus Point for Main Win)
2nd
– Wayne Rogers – 1.251
3rd
– Mike Clark - 1.375
4th
– Eddie McCray – 1.736
5th
– Cliff Scales – 3.386
6th
– Eddie Dunn
7th
– David Swearengin
8th
- James Adamson
Lap Leaders:
Jerry
Evans 1-150
Fast Lap of the Heat – Jerry Evans (TNT) in 6.121 seconds.
----------------------------
For
the 2nd of the two Mains which would be the Rain Makeup of Points Race#5
everyone was given 30 minutes to make adjustments, repairs and other necessary
changes to their cars.
The
lineup of the 2nd Main for Points Race #5 was an invert of the results from
Main #1.
Pole
- James Adamson
2nd
- David Swearengin
3rd
– Eddie Dunn
4th
– Cliff Scales
5th
– Eddie McCray
6th
– Mike Clark
7th
– Wayne Rogers
8th
– Jerry Evans
James
Adamson would lead the first 45 laps and set the early fast lap time, but while
leading he spun by himself coming off the back stretch when he barely touched
the grass just before making the turn into turn 3 and would give up the lead to
Jerry Evans who had moved up from 8th to 2nd when James spun. James would be
caught up in an accident caused by others a few laps later and would again
break a body post for the 2nd time in a Main. James would be able to continue but
with the body floating around he would have trouble running the lap times of
the leaders.
Jerry
Evans would lead until the halfway point at lap 75 and was the biggest mover
moving from 8th to 1st. Mike Clark was the next biggest mover from 6th to 3rd.
Cliff
Scales who had moved up to 2nd set the Fast Lap time of the 1st half with a
time of 6.272 seconds.
Running
order at the halfway point was 1st Jerry Evans, 2nd Cliff Scales, 3rd Mike
Clark, 4th Eddie Dunn, 5th Wayne Rogers, 6th James Adamson, 7th Eddie McCray
and 8th David Swearengin who dropped out with handling issues on lap 61 and
would finish 8th.
Jerry
Evans would actually start running faster laps in the 2nd half of the race than
he did in the 1st half and set the fast lap time of the Main on lap 128. He
would lead all of the 75 laps in the 2nd half and a late race restart on lap
140 allowed Mike Clark to have a shot at Jerry, but Jerry pulled away by 1.014
seconds in those last 10 laps to take the Win of the Main and also collect the
Bonus Point for the Main Win sweeping both Mains.
Finishing Order for Points Race #5 Sportsman Main:
1st
– Jerry Evans (Bonus Point for Main Win)
2nd
– Mike Clark – 1.014
3rd
– Cliff Scales – 5.698
4th
– Wayne Rogers – 6.966
5th
– James Adamson
6th
– Eddie McCray
7th
– Eddie Dunn
8th
– Dunn David Swearengin
Lap Leaders:
James
Adamson 1-45
Jerry
Evans 46-150
Fast Lap of the Heat – Jerry Evans (TNT) in 6.199 seconds.
