Lagoon Park R/C Raceway: June 13 Points Race #4 Report

A good turnout with ten (10) racers present for Points Race #4.

The temperature was Hot in the mid-90s.

There would be three (3) Limited Drivers and seven (7) Sportsman drivers.

Would like to welcome David Swearengin back to ¼ Scale Racing.

The top 3 in Limited Timed Qualifying were 1st Woody Trimble (PRO1) @ 6.906 seconds, David Swearengin (Lightning) @ 6.936 and Art Roper (Lightning) No Time.

The top 3 in Sportsman Timed Qualifying were Jerry Evans (TNT) @ 6.079 seconds – Bonus Point for TQ of Qualifying, 2nd Tim Smith (Lightning) @ 6.209 and 3rd James Adamson (Lightning) @ 6.228 seconds.

Limited Sportsman Heat #1 Racers were Woody Trimble, David Swearengin, and Art Roper.

1st Woody Trimble (PRO1)

2nd Art Roper – 2.682 back

Fast Lap of the Heat – Woody Trimble (PRO1) in 6.912 seconds.

Woody Trimble controlled this race from the start but did not run away with it. Art Roper kept the pressure on but Woody’s lap times were more consistent than Art’s which was the difference in this race.

Sportsman Group 1 Heat #1 Racers were Jerry Evans, Tim Smith, James Adamson, & Mike Clark.

Tim Smith 22-50

Fast Lap of the Heat – Tim Smith (Lightning) in 6.004 seconds.

This was basically a two man race between Jerry Evans and Tim Smith. Tim Smith showed

some patience and waited for a little slip by Jerry Evans and Tim took over 1st on lap 23. Both Tim and Jerry ran their best laps in the last half of the race. Jerry could keep up with Tim but could not make a move on Tim. A late caution caused the race to finish under yellow.

Sportsman Group 2 Heat #1 Racers were Scott Harper, Wayne Rogers and Eddie Dunn.

Scott Harper would totally control this race over the other two drivers lapping the field.

Limited Sportsman Heat #2 Racers had the field inverted with Art Roper on pole.

Heat Results:

1st Art Roper (Lightning) – Art’s 1st Limited Win.

2nd Woody Trimble

3rd David Swearengin

Fast Lap of the Heat – Art Roper (Lightning) in 6.930 seconds.

This was all Art Roper as the other two racers would have handling issues and Art was really never pressed.

Sportsman Group 1 Heat #2 Racers were inverted and had Mike Clark on Pole.

3rd Tim Smith – 7.309 back

Fast Lap of the Heat – Jerry Evans (TNT) in 6.097 seconds.

Mike would hold the lead the first 23 laps until Jerry Evans who worked his way from the back took over and led the last 26 laps of the race. Early in the race Tim Smith spun and was nailed by James Adamson which would cause some damage to both cars and they were never on the same pace after the contact.

Sportsman Group 2 Heat #2 Racers were inverted and had Eddie Dunn on Pole.

Fast Lap of the Heat – Scott Harper (TNT) in 6.182 seconds.

It was a strange race with Eddie Dunn having handling issues and Scott Harper quickly working his way up to 1st on lap 6. After his fast lap on lap 19, Scott’s time starting climbing drastically and on lap 30 Scott went into the pits for adjustments. This left the race in Wayne Rogers’ hands and he went on to lead the last 19 laps of the race for the win.

Limited Sportsman Heat #3 Racers had Woody Trimble on pole.

3rd Art Roper

Woody Trimble 5-35

Fast Lap of the Heat – David Swearengin (Lightning) in 6.520 seconds.

David Swearengin quickly took the lead from Woody and would lose it back on lap 5. This heat again was won by Woody Trimble by running much more consistent lap times than David as he was still getting used to being back racing a ¼ scale.

Sportsman Group 1 Heat #3 Racers had Jerry Evans on Pole.

3rd Tim Smith – 0.706 back

4th Mike Clark – 1.167 back

Fast Lap of the Heat – Tim Smith (Lightning) in 6.176 seconds.

This was the Heat of the day. Jerry Evans would led the 1st 19 laps until passed by Mike Clark. James Adamson passed Mike for 1st on lap 23 and held it until lap 34 where Jerry Evans went back to 1st. Everyone’s times were close together with Jerry running the most consistent lap times which lead Jerry Evans to the heat win. A late caution caused the heat to finish under yellow.

Scott Harper had this race completely under control and was several tens quicker than the others.

The Heats were tabulated and the Bonus Point for TQ of the Heats was awarded to Jerry Evans.

The Limited Main was set up but with just a few laps ran the Wind suddenly started blowing hard and then the rain came along with the wind.

Racers scrambled as easy-ups and electronics would both in harm’s way. It was great to see racers who did not have easy-ups help out those who did. In short everybody got wet.

The rain came late in the afternoon so the track was lost for the night. Thus the results for the Mains reverted back to the results from the Heats with the seeding’s determining the Main Results.
